In this two-day course, students will learn all of the fundamental skills required to work with metal clays and be successful with all Project X products.
Students will practice all of the fundamental techniques including rolling, texturing, cutting, carving, sculpting, molding, refining, firing and polishing. Extra time will be taken to discuss firing processes and each student will practice torch firing along with kiln firing.
Students will make five projects including a pair earrings with a firable stone, a double textured pendant with syringe detail, wrapped beads, a sculpted toggle clasp and a wrapped ring with a firable stone. The class will utilize Project X .999 Silver Clay, Project X .999 Flex and Project X .960 Silver Clays to ensure each student learns the appropriate usage of each type of clay.
Students will receive: 2 Fine Silver 2.5mm eyelets, 2 (2mm) Cubic Zirconias, 1 (3mm) Cubic Zirconias, Ovals Template, 2 Sterling Silver Ear Wires , 1 Syringe Soaker, 20g of Project X .999 Silver Clay, 25g of Project X .960 Silver Clay, 5g of Project X .999 Flex and a 10g Project X Syringe

REQUIRED TOOLS: Basic Metal Clay Tool Kit, Sanding Kit, Polishing Kit, Ring Mandrel, Oval Template, Round Template, Some Textures (2 are needed), Mini Molds (1 is needed), Dockyard Carver, Liberation Spray, Teflon Work Surface, Water Mister
FIRING: You will need a kiln and a torch (Fire Brick, Fire Blanket, Torch). If you do not have a kiln, Clay Revolution can provide kiln firing services.
Upon completion of the projects and lecture time, students will take a short written test. Each student will receive a Certificate of Completion from Sawtooth School for Visual Art and a 8% discount on all Project X clays at Clay Revolution and Rio Grande Jewelry Supply.
