Carrie's most highly acclaimed course! Learn everything you need to know about the new Project X Base Metal Clays in this advanced certification course! From the consistency to the firing options, this class will provide you with the working knowledge to use the clays efficiently and utilize the versatility of this great medium.
In this two-day course, Carrie will discuss the clay properties and provide examples of issues to help determine how to fix common problems. Students will work in the wet clay state, practice reconstituting the clay, learn construction techniques while making numerous projects.
Students will construct pieces in both copper and bronze and practice stone setting, embeddable settings, sculpting and multi metal constructed pieces.
Students will make 4 main projects:
1. Bronze shield bracelet component
2. Copper sculpted flower
3. White bronze pendant with stone
4. Multi metal, Red Bronze and Light Bronze, pendant
Students will also create numerous other student designed pieces as test firing and polishing practice pieces.
Carrie will discuss kiln firing in great depth. Including how to achieve beautiful kiln patinas on base metals. Polishing techniques and options will also be reviewed.
**Students will fire one firing the evening of the first day, it is advisable to have all materials and be ready to fire the evening of the first day. The beginning of the 2nd day we will review your firings from the night before.
Students will receive: 25g Copper (CLA081), 25g Red Bronze (CLA085), 25g Bronze CLA089), 25g Light Bronze (CLA093), 25g White Bronze (CLA097), 5mm high fire CZ, embeddable titanium eyelet, X20 (TOO271), and metal bracelet dome. Kits will be shipped immediately after registration.
Upon completion of the projects, students will submit pictures of their work along with the written test to Carrie for review. After successful completion, Carrie will issue a Certificate of Completion.
Some metal clay experience is suggested. The class will be recorded and available to view for 30 days after the class. It is highly suggested that students participate during the live class as firing issues can be addressed the second day. However if you are not able to attend the entire session the videos will be available for review.
