February 1st, 3rd and 4th
LIVE ONLINE with Carrie Story
In this three-session course, students will learn all of the fundamental skills required to work with metal clays and be successful with all PMC products. We will meet in an online video platform each day, where we will be face to face and interacting similar to an in-person classroom. I will lecture and demonstrate live, as well as play videos of clay demonstrations, and students will be able to ask questions in real-time. This course is designed for students who have already worked with metal clay. Beginner to advanced students are welcome. However, some basic metal clay experience is required.
Students will practice all of the fundamental techniques including rolling, texturing, cutting, carving, sculpting, molding, refining, firing and polishing. Extra time will be taken to discuss firing processes and each student will practice torch firing along with kiln firing.
Students will make five projects including a pair earrings with a firable stone, a double textured pendant with syringe detail, wrapped beads, a sculpted toggle clasp and a wrapped ring with a firable stone. The class will utilize PMC3, PMC Flex and PMC OneFire 950 clays to ensure each student learns the appropriate usage of each type of clay.
Upon completion of the projects and lecture time, students will take a short written test. Students will have one week to complete any work and submit the written test and photos of the projects to me for review. Each student will receive a Certificate of Completion from Sawtooth School for Visual Art and a 8% discount on all PMC clays at Clay Revolution and Rio Grande Jewelry Supply.
$455 course fee includes the below materials and a digital copy of the manual.
Students will receive 20g of PMC3, 25g of PMC OneFire 950, 5g of PMC Flex and a 9g PMC3 Syringe, 2 fine silver embeddable bails and 3 cubic zirconias.
Upon registration, you will receive an email with the tool supply list. In short, you will need a basic metal clay kit, a kiln and a torch. If you do not have a kiln, Clay Revolution can provide kiln firing services.
One week prior to class you will receive the course kit in the mail which will include all of your clay, stones and findings. You will also receive an email which will include information on how to log into the course electronically. This is a live course. You will not have access to a recording if you are not in attendance. The video recording will be available for 1 month after the class. Due to the current postal delivery situation, the kit for this course is mandatory. I have seen too many students who have not received their packages from suppliers. So I hope that you understand we will need to ensure you have your kit before class. We will be sending all kits via FedEx.
Cancellation Policy and Disclaimer- If cancellation is received with over two weeks notice, a full refund will be issued. However, cancellations within two weeks of the course start will not be refunded. You will receive the course materials in the mail prior to the course date. Due to the current postal delivery situation, all kits will be sent via FedEx to arrive before the class. Unfortunately, this means that the kit fee is non-refundable under all circumstances. The remaining course fee is refundable according to the above regulations, or may be used on a future online course within one year.
This is a three session course. You are committing to be online each day from 10:00am to 12:00pm Eastern Standard Time. If you miss a class or have technical difficulties, you may review the manual and ask questions via email to catch up. I will respond to emails as quickly as possible.
